Profile: Ruth G. Martin

The work of the Spanish Artist, Ruth G. Martin, currently based in Nottingham, somehow manages to achieve a fine balance between textile-based crafts and fine art in her constant search for beauty. Refusing to be tied down to one medium or technique, through a constant training and learning process, she has developed genuine skills in sculpture, digital art & quilt-making. Her subject-matter is equally split between architectural studies, an interest she attributes to growing up in the beautiful city of Madrid, fashion and nature.

Such diversity would lead many Artists to develop a disparate body of work, but Ruth's portfolio is both coherent and cohesive, as if her unique perspective is all it takes to bring various subjects and techniques together as one unified whole. A self-confessed 'lover of all pretty things', ribbons, buttons & embroidery, Ruth adorns most of her work with the same delicate 'sparkle', whatever the subject-matter, although there just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day...

"I do like pretty things- I love buttons, ribbons, sewing and embroidery. Everyday is a fight between my crafts and my art work. I try to keep well the balance between sitting down in front of the computer working on a digital print or sitting in a rocking chair weaving a bedspread. "

Having separately studied Fashion & Textile Design, Art & Design, Art & Graphics and Art & Humanitarian Studies, at various institutes and colleges in Spain & UK, Ruth is very well qualified to continue her search for beauty in earnest and we are proud to be able to help her along the way.
